Smoking in Cars

The tobacco industry shares the view of the Minister for Health that responsible adults should not smoke tobacco products in cars carrying children. However, we do not believe that extending regulation to the private sphere, such as cars, is the solution. Regulation is not always the answer. To be truly successful, we need to get to the core of the issue and that is about changing mindsets. More focus must be given to targeted information campaigns, education and raising awareness. In this context, campaigns to combat motor insurance fraud and reducing social welfare fraud have been very effective.
